Edited by Kate Irvin and Laurie Ann Brewer
Artist/Rebel/Dandy celebrates the history and pleasures of the sharp-dressed man, from the discreet sophistication of the consummately elegant George Bryan “Beau” Brummell in the early 19th century to the contemporary sartorial flair of Outkast’s Andre 300. The volume accompanies a major exhibition at the Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design, which opened April 28 and ran through August 18, 2013.
Included fifteen musings on notable dandies including:
+Patti Smith on Charles Baudelaire
+A reflection on Oscar Wilde by his grandson, Merlin Holland
+Daniela Morera, part of Andy Warhol’s Factory crowd, reminiscing about the artist’s image
+Writer Philip Hoare describing the “thrift-shop dandyism” of director John Waters
